WC’s New Plastic Bag Ordinance Begins

Bag_Outreach

Walnut Creek’s new plastic bag ordinance goes into effect today. Start today retailers can no longer distribute single-use plastic checkout bags and must charge a minimum of ten cents for a paper bag. To avoid the bag fee, shoppers are encouraged to bring their own reusable bags. Click here to read the Ordinance.

Data obtained from conducting trash hot spot assessment and cleanup since 2010 along the City’s creek bank showed that single-use carry out plastic bags were among the most commonly found litter. The littering of plastic bags is an increasing blight on land and poses water quality problems. Most plastic bags do not biodegrade but instead persist in the environment for many years. These issues prompted Walnut Creek City Council to adopt the Plastic Bag ordinance on March 18, 2014.

Starting on December 18, 2014, all public eating establishments (such as restaurants, delicatessen, cafeterias and food trucks) cannot distribute single-use plastic checkout bags to customers for their take-out food. Customers can opt for no bag, paper bags may be provided to customer at no charge and reusable bags can be used at the discretion of customer and restaurant. Individual paper or plastic product bags without handle may be used around container of soups or stews to prevent spilling.

While supplies last,  a free reusable bag is available on the 2nd Floor of City Hall at the Permit Counter. City Hall is located at 1666 North Main Street in Walnut Creek.

Please call (925) 256-3503 or email to bringyourbag@walnut-creek.org for guidance on unique situations.

FREE U.S. Constitution Booklet – Read Yours Today

US_Constitution

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!”  ~Sam Adams 1776

It is our Constitution and those that believe in it that keep us free and out of servitude. Lawless leaders and individuals have attempted to destroy the U.S. Constitution which is the very foundation of OUR country.  Very few know this, but the Constitution wasn’t written for everyone, in fact it was written only for a select few.

John Adams in a speech to the military in 1798 warned his fellow countrymen stating, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

In a day of Miley Cyrus twerking, there are signs of our society losing moral ground daily.  However know that all hope is not lost.  In the days of unprecedented wickedness, there is a glimmer of hope arising from the chaos. All across our nation, true countrymen are pulling back to their roots and dusting off their U.S. Constitution.

Since Obama’s election in 2008, there has been a resurgence of America patriotism in which hasn’t been since in decades and is spreading like wildfire. The IRS targeting groups that use the term “patriot”, “American” and “tea party” hasn’t stopped the spread either. The gun laws that were passed unconstitutional back fired making Obama the best gun salesmen in America.  Gun shops had record-breaking sales men and women flocked to stores to take up arms.

Why are we talking about the Constitution?Because today is Constitution Day. It’s a day that commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who, are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens.

On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign the document they had created. We encourage all Americans to observe this important day in our nation’s history by attending local events in your area. Celebrate Constitution Day through activities, learning, parades and demonstrations of our Love for the United State of America and the Blessings of Freedom Our Founding Fathers secured for us.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” ~Edmund Berke

The best thing we can all do, to help save this great nation of ours, is to pick up and study our Constitution. To vow to protect and preserve this priceless gift for generations to come.

If you don’t have a Constitutions and want one, there are many groups that offer FREE U.S. Constitution booklets. Check them out and show your American spirit with these other patriotic goodies listed below:
