Celebration Ice Cream for Dinner Day – Tomorrow!

icecream

A Concord resident has created the most wonderful tribute to her father and in the process created a day of joy for many around the world! If that wasn’t enough, this tribute has been carried on for over a decade! We were lucky enough to get an invite and we are passing along that invite to all of you!  Join her for her 10th Annual Ice Cream For Dinner Day tomorrow, October 15, 2015! It’s purpose is to share in the awesomeness of life! Check out the 411 below and click on the link below to RSVP. No need to go anywhere. Just celebrate at home with your family!

Here’s the back story:

On October 15, 2005, my father’s life was cut short after a very brief battle with cancer. While he was in the hospital, the doctor cleared him to have any food he wanted. I called and had my brother bring a small cup of Haagan Daas Vanilla ice cream brought in for him – his favorite. Dad never got to eat that ice cream.

As a tribute to my father, ice cream for dinner day was born.

Ice Cream for Dinner Day is an opportunity to reevaluate your priorities. Celebrate spontaneity. Realize that life is short and unpredictable and that sometimes you don’t get the opportunity to do things that you put off until later (like dessert). Remember those who have left us. Acknowledge the idea that watching the excitement on your children’s faces when you tell them you’re having ice cream for dinner is way more fun than trying to force them to eat their veggies, and for one night out of the year it truly will not kill them. Join in a tradition. Live a little.

Every year, there is always a group of people who reply “I would NEVER feed my kids ice cream before dinner!” This year, challenge yourself to break out of that mentality.

Invite everyone you know! I am always amazed and my heart is so warmed that this event spreads the way it does every year. In the past, Ice Cream for Dinner Day has made it to Australia, British Columbia and Israel! Every year the response is overwhelming and so touching. Raise a spoon and spread the love!

Will your family participant? What’s your favorite flavor of ice? There are so many awesome flavors to choose from! Enjoy!

Walnut Creek Safeway Closing, Offering 50% Off All Merchandise – Starts Today

0000000

The Safeway off Ygancio Valley Rd in Walnut Creek is closing. The store launched its 50% off the sale price on all merchandise excluding alcohol. The wine, beer and hard liquor are 40% plus and additional 10% when you buy 6 bottles of any kind. The 50% sale is store wide and includes floral, foods, drinks, pet supplies, toiletries and baby items including diapers.

06

Absolutely everything is on markdown in the store.

According to management, the store will be closing on September 5 and the sale will continue until all the merchandise is gone.

Safeway’s sale started today and the smaller store was packed by 5:15am, only 15 minutes after opening. By 5:20am shopping carts were in short supply as a mad dash for local Walgreens carts broke out in the parking lot.

Inside, entire families came in with game plans and coordinated their shopping. The rush was for 40-50% off high-end liquor, wines and beer.  Some individuals pushed around two shopping carts at once all stuffed full of everything from bread to wash soap. One family have 4 carts filled of only booze.

03

The lines were stretched over the entire store as the 4 check out clerks desperately tried to keep up. One checker said “Today is worse than Thankgiving and Thanksgiving is a nightmare”.  Shoppers waited over an hour to rack in the good deals. One patron we spoke with asked “Is this what panic buying looks like? I mean.. It’s tense in here. People are aggressive. It’s like a fight will break out over the last can of corn.”

02

We have to admit, it was intense in there. There was some pushing, a few verbal disputes, some line cutting and even some old-fashioned theft. That’s right theft. We saw people stealing items out of unattended carts as well as shoppers loading up their cloth grocery bags with merchandise.

05
When we left some of the shelves were bare but there was still plenty left.  Also you can use coupons in addition to the 50% off mark down.

Check out these videos clips of the massive long lines, full carts and the somewhat bare shelves.

IHOP Offers $1 Pancakes – End Childhood Hunger!

150706_EM_IHOP

IHOP will have $1 pancakes to raise funds for charity on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Get a short stack of IHOP’s famous buttermilk pancakes for only $1 from 7 AM to 7 PM.  Dubbed “Share a Smile” Day, 50 cents from each $1 short stack sale will benefit No Kid Hungry.  No coupon is required to get the IHOP $1 special.

IHOP announced that it has joined forces with No Kid Hungry to provide 2.5 million meals this year. “No Kid Hungry’s mission is to ensure that every child in the United States has access to healthy food,” the pancake chain said in a press release.

“One in five American children struggle with hunger, which can have serious long-term effects on their development and success,” said Darren Rebelez, President of International House of Pancakes, LLC. “We are so proud to partner with No Kid Hungry to bring smiles to children’s faces as we fight to end childhood hunger.”

IHOP’s “Summer of Smiles” celebration is devoted to celebrating individuals and organizations that have dedicated themselves to making the communities they serve better.  No Kid Hungry’s initiatives to feed children will benefit not only from the $1 short stack program on August 25, but also a month-long online and social media campaign, as well as a donation line on all IHOP receipts.

“The simple act of feeding kids a healthy breakfast can have a dramatic impact on their academic, health and economic futures,” said Billy Shore, Founder and CEO of Share Our Strength, the national nonprofit that runs the No Kid Hungry campaign. “A leader in breakfast, IHOP is an ideal partner to help us raise awareness and end childhood hunger, and by Sharing a Smile IHOP guests and the brand will kick off Dine Out for No Kid Hungry in a rewarding and exciting way.”

Happy International Left-Handers Day!

Left-Handers-Day-August-13

Lefties who are feeling left out in a right-oriented world have reason for cheer today. August 13th is observed as International Left-Handers Day and is the day that left-handed people can claim as their own.

International Left-Handers Day  was established in 1990, as a day to bring attention to the struggles which lefties face daily in a right-handed society.  Lefties, commonly called Southpaw, face challenges in doing ordinary things because so many tools are created for the right-handed. #thestruggleisreal

Approximately 10% of the population is a Southpaw.  Scientists haven’t discovered why a person is left-handed, but it more probable that you will have a left-handed child if one of the parents is left-handed.

Everyone is born right-handed. Only the greatest overcome it”. …Brilliant Author unknown

Random Fun Facts About Left Handed People

  • While many people are left handed, very few are 100% left handed. For example, many Left handers golf and bat right handed. On the other hand, there is a high percentage of righties who are 100% right-handed.
  • The term Southpaw was coined in baseball to describe a left handed pitcher.
  • During the 1600’s people, thought left handers were witches and warlocks.
