One intention we’ve had at the bottom of our hearts was to build a community around the Mt Diablo area and bring people and ideas closer together. We want all of our readers to feel like this is your blog too. So far we’ve had a lot of fun and offered many great opportunities! Now it’s your turn!

What topics do you want to see covered in future posts? Do you have a special event like an engagement, wedding, or military homecoming that you would like us to know about? Are there any local rants or raves within our community that need a spotlight?

Imagine a viral outbreak has occurred wiping out a large majority of the local population and other major cities throughout the globe. The fatal virus is considered highly contagious and dangerous. Nicknamed the “Zombie Disease,” because those killed by the disease seem to be returning to life and prey upon the living. We are now facing a full-fledged attack. Those of us left alive must now ask ourselves, “Where do we go from here? How will we survive and support the existence of the human race?” 

Zombie Apocalypse is often used as metaphor for any major disaster or event. If you’re ready for a zombie apocalypse, chances are you are ready for anything!

REI would like to invite you to attend the Zombie Preparedness Class, where you will learn valuable survival techniques that could save your life. These same techniques could be invaluable in any natural disaster in an urban environment. The survival of humanity may depend on you. Be prepared!

Zombie Preparedness Class will be held Wednesday Oct, 23, 21013 from 7:00 – 8:30pm at the Concord REI store.

Harvest Moon Tonight – Send Us Your Pics

Summer is drawing to a close in the Northern Hemisphere, and a symbol of fall hangs in the sky tonight (Sept. 19) to help drive that fact home — the Harvest Moon.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon that falls closest to the autumnal equinox, which marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, the equinox falls on Sunday (Sept. 22), and the moon reaches its full phase in North America overnight from Wednesday to Thursday (Sept. 18-19).

This full moon is called the Harvest Moon because many fruits and vegetables tend to ripen in the late summer and early fall in the Northern Hemisphere. In the days before electricity, farmers relied heavily on this moon’s light, working late into the evening to harvest their crops.
