Everybody loves ice cream. And everybody loves freebies. And free ice cream? That’s almost too good to be true.

So ice cream lovers understandably get excited about Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day, an annual event. This is Ben & Jerry’s 35th year of giving away one free ice cream cone per customer, at participating Ben & Jerry’s locations. This year, Free Cone Day is Today, Tuesday, April 9, as you may have already seen on Twitter (#FreeConeDay).

The Blue Devils ‘C’ Corps is accepting new members in the Brass and Color Guard sections. The “C” Corps is a beginning level music, dance, and marching activity composed of members ages 8 to 15. No experience is necessary.

Color Guard has their first rehearsal on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Mt. Diablo High School in Concord. There will also be a parent meeting that evening which will give more information, but if you cannot make it on Monday, feel free to come another night, as more parent meetings are scheduled. areas of musical and dance performance. Their goal is to develop personal
character through challenging physical, emotional, mental, and social activities
while promoting the values of dedication, hard work, and commitment to a team

California Color Guard Circuit Championships will be taking place on Saturday, 4/6/13 at Independence High School (1776 Educational Park Drive, San Jose). The Color Guard show begins at 2:15 pm and runs through 8:30 pm. The Blue Devils ‘A’ perform at 7:04 pm and the Blue Devils Special Needs group will perform at 8:19 pm. Admission is only $15, and children under 5 are free!

Bring your kids to your local Home Depot so that they can participate and build a free bird feeder on April 6, 2013. Home Depot offers FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.

All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement. Paint will be provided at the workshop for children to personalize their bird feeder craft! Our readers have just notified us of an unlawful SMOG CHECK on Treat & Cowel Rd in Concord. Local law enforcement are out in force today! They are stopping vehicles that are legally registered and unlawfully detaining them for up to 20 minutes to conduct and illegal on site smog check investigation. If you happen to pass this, email us (diabloreporter@hush.com) pictures or video of the event and let’s get the word out so that unsuspecting driver’s are not stopped and harassed.

“While traveling to work today, I came up on a checkpoint at Treat Blvd and Cowell Rd in Concord. I couldn’t believe it! This isn’t an unusual driver’s license or dui checkpoint, this is to check your SMOG. They have the big piece of equipment out there to run the checks and it could take upwards of 20 minutes of delay time to have testing done. Is this protecting and serving the public? What about REAL crimes being committed? I’ve been paying taxes for a long time, but I don’t want to pay for my delay and harassment!”

We have received several emails about this incident and the public isn’t happy. What do you think? Are these illegal? Waste of time and money? Should this be happening on the streets of Concord?
