Help Keep Clayton Clean – Free T-Shirt Plus Lunch

Rain or shine, scores of Claytonians show up at City Hall every year on a Saturday morning in April to pick up garbage bags and gloves before heading out to the city streets for Clayton Cleans Up. This event, is a great chance for kids, adults, Scout Troops, service clubs, families and neighbors to spiff up the town in readiness for the Art and Wine Festival.

Volunteers meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at City Hall to pick up a T-shirt, garbage bags and gloves. At 11:30, everyone meets back at City Hall for a barbecue lunch.

The event is sponsored by the Clayton Pioneer and the city of Clayton with generous donations from Allied Waste, Travis Credit Union and local merchants. For more information, call the Pioneer at (925) 672-0500 or visit the Clayton Clean Up page.

Local Earth Day Events:

  • El Cerrito: Celebrate the spirit of Earth Day with a community cleanup on Saturday, April 20. Those interested in participating are asked to register in advance, either online or by visiting the Environmental Services Division at City Hall. Work parties will fan out across the city from 9 a.m. until noon; volunteers and their families are then invited to return to the El Cerrito Community Center for a free lunch.
  • Lafayette: Family-friendly activities and educational exhibits will be part of the 8th annual Earth Day Picnic and Celebration, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center. The event will feature educational and vendor booths, an environmental film, a Self-Propelled Parade, and an array of kids’ activities.
  • Danville: Join the third annual Danville Earth Day Event, a free, fun, informative event focused on sustainable practices, landscape design, energy efficiency, waste reduction, recycling, water conservation, fuel-efficiency, carbon footprint, green building options and much more. Earth Day activities include: hands-on activities, interactive booths, electric and hybrid vehicles, giant Earth ball, live music, Measure Your Carbon Footprint, Earth Day Art Contest display, meet Mr. Funnel head and learn how to recycle your oil, watershed diorama, a scavenger hunt, giveaways, prizes and much more.
  • Vallejo: Combine healthy eating with an enhanced awareness of the environment during an Earth Day 2013 Celebration at the downtown Farmers’ Market from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 20. Visit information booths, a petting zoo, recycled crafts exhibits, California native plants, and more. Sponsors will be offering a mercury thermometer exchange program, too.

National Park Week – Free Admission 4/22-4/26

Everyone can enjoy Free Admission to National Parks in 2013. Check the list of dates below, when admission to national parks is FREE for anyone.   If you’re active military or family, you can also get a FREE Annual Pass to our National Parks.
