CONFIRMED: DUI Checkpoint In Progress Tonight

It’s been confirmed that there is a DUI checkpoint tonight in Concord! The checkpoint has begun and the location is listed below.

If you would like to updated on DUI checkpoints in Contra Costa, it’s HIGHLY recommended that you joining our email list, Facebook page, twitter feed or bookmark us and check back often!  We will continue to make people of Contra Costa County aware of DUI Checkpoints, Smog Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols, and other travel related events. As far as we know, DiabloReporter.com is the ONLY site that gives out specific times and locations of checkpoints in the County.

Law enforcement throughout Contra Costa County will be cracking down on drunk drivers this weekend. As part of the Avoid the 25, the anti-DUI task force will deploy officers countywide to arrest drunk drivers and keep the public aware of the dangers of driving while impaired.

People making plans for weekend trips and parties are encouraged to use a designated sober driver to prevent arrests or accidents. Drive safe and be responsible.

There is a DUI checkpoint in progress now on Concord Ave, just East of Market St, in front of Chili’s Restaurant. The checkpoint will go until 3:30am.

Free 6 Week Emergency Preparedness Course


certCommunity Emergency Response Team (CERT) is offering a FREE 6 week emergency preparedness course. They are giving graduates a free emergency preparedness backpack kit.

This CERT basic training is 6 Thursday evenings, September 18 through October 23 from 6:30pm to 10:00pm. If you cannot attend all 6 classes, you will be able to attend a make-up class to fullfill the FEMA 20 hour requirement.

certinactionIn the course you will learn how to take care of yourself and family after an emergency, especially the first 72 hours and maybe up to 10 days. You will learn what kits and food you should have on hand, how to use a fire extinquisher properly, basic first aid, light search & rescue and triage. After you have taken the series of class, the final class will be a simulated disaster drill on Saturday Novenber 1, 2014.

The course will be held in Concord at the Contra Costa County Fire Training Center. Concord residents and non Concord residents welcome! Space is limited!

Free Junior & Adult Cooking Classes: Fresh Pasta

Join Williams & Sonoma for their Junior Chef and Adult cooking classes: Fresh Pasta – Sept 6 & 7.

Transform a few simple ingredients into a classic, comforting meal. We have the tips, techniques and tools you need to make pasta paired with an authentic sauce.

Junior Chef Cooking Class: Sept 6  9:30am

The Junior Chef cooking classes are free and include tastings of prepared dishes. The class will be held Saturdays at 09:30am and class size is limited. Parents can also enjoy 10% savings on select same-day store purchases

Want to help prepare dinner? Learn how to make delicious fresh pasta dish the whole family will love.

This class will be held Sunday Sept 7th at 10am. The hour-long technique classes are free and include tastings of prepared dishes. The class will be held at 10:00am and class size is limited. Participants can also enjoy 10% savings on select same-day store purchases.

2014 CCMG Sustainability Fair – Free Admission

The Contra Costa Master Gardeners are hosting a FREE event to promote sustainability in our gardens, neighborhoods and communities.  Over a dozen partner organizations will be on-hand to share information on sustainable strategies and healthy garden practices.

This event will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014, from 10:00 till 3:00 at Our Garden’ the Contra Costa Master Gardeners’ demonstration garden located at N. Wiget Lane and Shadelands Drive, Walnut Creek.

You can tour “Our Garden,” the Master Gardener demonstration garden that donates thousands of pounds of fresh produce to the Monument Crisis Center annually.  The day will also include presentations and informal demonstrations on topics such as backyard chickens, beekeeping, irrigation basics, bio-intensive gardening, composting, losing your lawn and backyard grapes.  Plus a plant sale, children’s activity area, food trucks, raffles, freebies and more…

Free Kids Workshop – Build a Bird House


kids-workshopHave your kid’s attended the free kids workshops at Home Depot?  Make sure to mark your calendar for the next workshop that will offer a chance for your child to build a Wizard of Oz birdhouse.

These workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety along with instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment.

The children get to keep their craft and get a cool workshop apron, commemorative pin, and a certificate of achievement! The workshop starts at 9 am and goes until 12pm.

The next workshop isn’t until 9/6, but go ahead and Register Early before space runs out!

The City of Concord is currently hosting its 26th Annual Music and Market Series. These events are free to the community and are held in Todos Santos Plaza.

It’s a perfect time to grab the family and enjoy a relaxing night in the plaza. Listen to listen live music by talented Bay Area artists. Pack a picnic, bring lawn chairs & blankets as needed.

The Music and Market Series will go from May-September; Thursday evenings 6:30-8p.m.
