Enjoy an “EPIC” and Team ENERGY STAR activity sheet with loads of fun things to do. This FREE hands-on workshop is designed for children ages 5 – 12 years old and is offered by Home Depot on May 4th between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement. Paint will be provided at the workshop for children to personalize their herb planter!

Hiring Our Heros Job Fair for Veterans Tomorrow


Join Hiring Our Heros tomorrow, April 30, 2013 from 10:00am to 1:00pm for a job fair for veteran job seekers, active duty military members, guard and reserve members, and military spouses at the Walnut Creek Marriott, 2355 N Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA 94596. This event will be a one-of-a-kind FREE hiring fair for both employers and job seekers.

The Hiring Our Heroes employment workshop consists of a classroom session beginning one hour prior to the hiring fair followed by HR professionals conducting one-on-one mentoring sessions with all pre-registered participants. Mentoring sessions focus on resume building; resume writing, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veteran and service member p eekers that focuses on resume writing, tips for successfully navigating hiring fairs, military skill translation, and two workshops will be held for veterans and other military job interviewing will start at 9:00 a.m. and again at 11:00 a.m articipants.

Interested candidates must complete the FREE electronic pre-registration in order to participate. A maximum of 50 participants will be accepted for the full workshop. Once the pre-registered candidates have their coaching sessions, the opportunity may be available for “walk ins” to have a coaching session through the end of the Fair (depending on availability).

This hiring event is being conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), the California Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, The American Legion, NBC News, and other local partners.

Free Bicycling Class, Safety Course & Helmet

Join the East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) for their kids bike rodeo event. This event offered by the EBBC and looks to be a day of biking fun! The rodeo includes a bike safety course, skills building, walking and bicycling safety instruction, rides and free helmets for the kids.

EBBC’s team of youth cycling instructors have planned a fun-filled bike rodeo and will provided bikes and helmets, or you can bring your own.  The Rodeo will be held on April 28, 2013 from 11:00a.m. – 2:00p.m at 1760 Clayton Rd in Concord.  The Kids Bike Rodeos welcome children  grades 3-6 approximately.

Skills Taught Include:

  • How to Perform a Bicycle Safety Check
  • Proper Helmet Fitting
  • Proper Starting and Stopping
  • Signaling and Communication
  • Shifting Gears
  • Scanning Ahead
  • Shoulder Checking
  • Obstacle Avoidance

Help Keep Clayton Clean – Free T-Shirt Plus Lunch

Rain or shine, scores of Claytonians show up at City Hall every year on a Saturday morning in April to pick up garbage bags and gloves before heading out to the city streets for Clayton Cleans Up. This event, is a great chance for kids, adults, Scout Troops, service clubs, families and neighbors to spiff up the town in readiness for the Art and Wine Festival.

Volunteers meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 27, at City Hall to pick up a T-shirt, garbage bags and gloves. At 11:30, everyone meets back at City Hall for a barbecue lunch.

Free Admission Night at the Drive In – April 25

West Wind Theaters (off Solano Drive in Concord) is hosting their FREE ADMISSION night on April 25, 2013. The featured movies are Wreck-It Ralph and Jack the Giant Slayer.  Other activities include a live band, games and well stocked concession stands.
