Captain America Protests Conditions in the U.S. – WC PD Intervene

Yesterday was Patriot Day, an annual observance on September 11 to remember those who were injured or died during the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001.  While Memorials were being held, a group of protesters gathered and stood on the Iron Horse Trail overpass to exercise their constitutionally protected right to freedom of speech.

Homemade banners with the words “Impeach Obama” were visible on the overpass from both sides along with the American Flag. Vehicles honk with approval as they passed from both directions.

It’s unclear how long this protest went on but it was interrupted by the arrival of Walnut Creek Police Department’s. One Officer was observed with his citation book in hand speaking with Captain America. It’s unknown if the protesters were asked to leave, received a citation or perhaps allowed to continue.

The article raised some questions for me. Are we still allow to peacefully assemble and protest?  Do we need a permit? What do you think about the flags or banners? Some might say they are a distraction for traffic since you could hear honking from blocks away, what do you think? If you have more information about the protest or the outcome, let us know.
