The Contra Costa Master Gardeners will host their second annual educational fundraiser to celebrate our local agricultural community, co-sponsored by the City of Brentwood.

Learn about the Brentwood corn story and our emerging olive oil market

Learn about efforts to conserve existing East County farmland

Learn about CSAs (community-supported agriculture)

In the afternoon:

Learn how to improve your soil from a leading soil scientist

Learn about growing more edibles in your backyard

Attend demonstrations by Master Gardeners

In addition, local vendors will be selling products made from the fruits of our agricultural bounty.

Registration:   $35 per person, which includes a fresh local lunch

Home Improvement Expo 2014 – Free Admission

Thinking of upgrading, improving, remodeling your home? On Saturday, Feb 8, from 9AM to 2PM, come to the Big White Tent at the Crossings, Concord, and meet dozens of great local home improvement professionals who can help you achieve your goals at the Home Expo 2014! There’ll be a wide range of local professionals (contractors, plumbers, landscapers, electricians, roofers, painters, and financial planners) who help homeowners upgrade their homes, and afford the improvements they need.

This FREE event is held in Concord’s Crossings community, surrounded by almost 1,100 homes, and is a fun family oriented event. This year there’ll be presentations on home buying, home financing, and the home improvements that are proven to add value to Bay Area homes. It’s also a fundraiser for Highlands Elementary School, with food and drink stands, and a playground next door for kids to run around – so feel free to bring the family.

WHEN: Saturday February 8th 2014 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

WHERE: In a huge white tent behind the Crossings Community Clubhouse on Oakbrook Court, Concord.

Contra Costa Libertarian Meet Up – First Thursdays

The business portion of the meeting starts at 7:30. If you’d like to come just for the socializing, that usually starts at 8pm. There’s no charge. Drinks & snacks may be provided but it’s always nice to bring something to share if your able. Non-libertarians are welcome but you should have a healthy interest in politics.

Free Kids Workshop: Build Race Car #20

Looking for something fun and FREE to do with the kids this weekend? Check out the Home Depot’s Build a Race Car Free Kids Workshop. The workshop will be held Saturday, February 6th  and runs from 9a-12p.

Here are the details:

  • FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety along with instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment.
  • All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.

Last Day: Old Spaghetti Factory Offering $4-5 Meals & $3 Kids Meals

Today is the last day the Old Spaghetti Factory will be celebrating their 45th Anniversary the next 2 weeks and in honor of their anniversary, they will be offering lunch and dinner entrees for $4 – $5 and kids meals for $3. This special menu will be offered on Monday January 13th, Tuesday January 14th,  Monday January 20th (Martin Luther King holiday) & Tuesday the 21st.

Make sure to check out the menu – there are 9 different entrée options plus kids meals for $3 and coffee, tea or milk for $1. Plus all the entrees come with bread, soup or a salad and then desert (Vanilla ice cream or Spumoni).  This could be a nice, frugal meal out if you’ve been wanting to eat out but haven’t had the budget to do so for awhile. Remember if you go, experiencing dinner from inside the train is always cool!

The Brewing Network’s Winter Brews Festival returns to Todos Santos Plaza in Concord to celebrate its fifth year as one of the best craft beer festivals in the Bay Area, and the only winter brews fest!

Tickets are now on sale and are $35 pre-sale or $45 at the gate and include unlimited pours and a commemorative glass for the first 1,500 tickets sold. Designated Drivers get in free, however this is a 21 and over only event.

The event is conveniently located just two blocks away from the Concord BART station so mark your calendars for a craft beer infused day for a wonderful cause.
